Jose Rivera joined the Communication Studies Department at California State University, San Bernardino, as an adjunct instructor in January, of 2012. He quickly established himself as a strong instructor, built a rapport with students, and a willing mentor. Jose teaches several upper division PR courses that include PR Campaigns, PR Practicum, and PR Writing. In addition to teaching, Jose is the department’s PRSSA advisor. This year the club attended PRSSA Regionals and visited Edelman and Facebook headquarters in Los Angeles.

Jose is a key member of Latino Education and Advocacy Days (LEAD) which promotes a broad-based awareness of Latino Education issues. He assists LEAD with community outreach, intern coordinating, LEAD Summit planning, and social media support as well.  Jose recently received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his work with LEAD.

Prior to becoming a Lecturer at CSUSB, Jose interned with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). With the CDC Jose did community outreach and event planning. The emphasis of his work with the CDC was in HIV/AIDS prevention among Latino populations.

Jose currently serves on his University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) which reviews research proposals in an effort to protect the rights and welfare of human participants. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Public Relations and Mass Communication and earned his Master’s degree in Communication Studies from Cal State San Bernardino, in 2011.
