Joseph Tateoka, 2011 Young Professional Honoree

Joseph Tateoka has worked at global and midsize public relations agencies in Chicago for nearly 10 years. His expertise encompasses enterprise IT, BtoB, financial services and enterprise software. At Edelman, Tateoka serves as a day-to-day strategic account leader to clients within the agency’s Technology practice.

Previously, Tateoka was a member of Burson-Marsteller’s Technology practice and served on its HP Enterprise Business team. He began his career at Ruder Finn as a member of the BtoB and Technology practice.

He also interned at nonprofit groups including The Boys and Girls Club of Utah County and the Food and Care Coalition, both in Utah, and also at The Walton Group, a boutique PR firm.  He served as the student director for Brigham Young University’s PRSSA student-managed PR firm BradleyPR.

Tateoka is an active PRSA member and served a three-year term on the Chicago PRSA Chapter Board of Advisors. He also served six years as the professional advisor of DePaul’s PRSSA chapter. He has been a member of PRSSA and PRSA since 2005.

He received the Young Professional of the Year award at the Plank Center’s “Milestones in Mentoring Awards” event in 2011. The award honors PR professionals who model two-way communication and exemplary behaviors to lead by example.

Tateoka earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations from Brigham Young University. He resides in Rogers Park with his wife Alison and two sons, Parker and Charlie.
